Literature Text
I remember when we met
We were children then
And it was so long ago
If only I had known fate would be so cruel
Time passed
And we grew
Going through our life stages
Then I noticed that your footsteps
Grew slower then mine
And I never knew why
If only I had known
I got your letter
The day I recieved it wasn't a day
That I'd forget
We hadn't seen each other in so long then
I came there, to see you
You were so strong, the last time I remember
Suddenly, you've become so frail
"At first, I didn't want to tell you."
Was what I heard you say
"Why didn't you tell me?" was a question unasked
Yet, I wish I did
If only I had asked
That number of pill bottles piled up
At first it was just a tube and pills
Then they stopped giving you pills
They ran more tests on you, I remember
Neither of us liked the results
You smiled as you cried
If only they could save you
You knew they couldn't
Eventually, it was just barely you
And it was mostly machines
Machines trying to steal back time for you
If only you could do it yourself
You were nearing the end
It was long and slow
And you took it quietly
If only you had fought more
But you couldn't
You fought long and hard, for a decent while
Now, you just needed to rest
If only I told you goodbye
But I knew you wouldn't have liked that
You wanted me to say "Hello" instead
Hah, funny that I'd remember
You never liked goodbyes
It was a quiet day, I remember
It was also raining and I was by your side
As you fell asleep
"We had a good run, didn't we?"
"Yes, we did."
"Thank you."
You fell asleep with your memories
Memories of what time we spent
I knew you would have it no other way
I remembered your favorite flower
It's a happy one
If only you were here to see the bouqet
That you've asked me for
They're pretty, I assure you, just how you'd like them
That bouquet you've asked me to bring
If only they were for your birthday
They've picked a nice spot
All just for you
Just how you'd like it
If only you were here, again
We were children then
And it was so long ago
If only I had known fate would be so cruel

I love this so much. It reminds me of my grandma and grandpa before they passed. <3
