Literature Text
Heya there, I know you all know I am no expert but behavior has almost always been a curiosity to me. In this case, I am writing about the concepts of a Freudian Excuse, which is "There is a reason as to why this person is the way they are." or so that is what I've gotten out of that, anyway. Nevertheless, I'd thought I'd write about it after some observation on what people thought. Be noted whatever you may read here is quite flawed and is only based on my observation.
Lets use an example, shall we? We all know Toki, don't we? Well, I do being that I have applied my observations and the Freudian Excuse to my own writing. Now, from what we do know, Toki never had it fortunate and wasn't always the person that she was, rather she used to be very kind, but, nevertheless, here is her Freudian Excuse for why she is as she is. For one she is mentally ill, something that is characteristic with the long-term psychological effects of child abuse (technically, she wasn't a child if you consider how old she might actually be but, still). However, the reason to why she has lost her sanity is not exactly why it is but the abuse and mistreatment she's suffered was a contributing factor but, nevertheless, the abuse did indeed leave her a ticking time bomb. Now, a quick rundown of a her mental illnesses, be noted she has multiple of them
- Multiple types of schizophrenia
- Mania (symptoms being extreme/abnormal irritability, unusual hostility)
- Borderline personality disorder (some of the behavior she has is noted as symptoms of this disorder one of which is a real or perceived fear of being abandoned, along with engaging in some reckless behaviour)
- Dissociative identity disorder (sort of)
- Any many others that have yet to be diagnosed
See? Those were just fictional examples but, overall, the principle can still be applied and, unlike half of some of the real life examples, neither of these two were far away from redemption, rather they were but a bit too late, as they had both drifted into insanity by the time. However, most real life examples don't come close to that, rather they are a bit worse and, often a Freudian excuse is used to justify, in times where they really they cannot be used.
From what I have seen and heard, especially in the cases where people hurt others, one example being bullies. This is one of the big ones so far but, nevertheless, it doesn't justify their actions, rather, it explains their behavior. Some bullies have had it tough, one of which being abused, so naturally they really know no other way and is taking out their frustration, anger, and hatred on those in which they perceive as weaker, mirroring what may be going on at home. On the other hand, they may have lack of discipline, thus they feel they can get away with it. A second example, would be abusive parents, a small percent of whom were abused by their parents, so they really don't know any other way and, on the other hand, either because they've had or is having a hard or out of resentment, or, rather some combination of both, they abuse their children because of the aforementioned. Their circumstances only explain but not justify their actions
Nevertheless the point is, that Freudian excuses only explain and are very seldom justifying the actions.

Something I'd thought I'd do. Not allowing comments at this time to keep down any sort of debate, however, you can send me a note stating your opinion, though.
