Skip Rope

        After having her hair washed and combed, this was the challenge, braiding Toki’s hair. Her hair was extremely long and she would not cut it. However, as usual, they often thought of a solution and that was to play skip rope with it. Since Toki’s hair was so long, braiding it in this manner didn’t seem to bother her (apparently, she doesn’t seem to notice if it’s been pulled).

        When her hairs was dried and dragging her long stream of hair that would make even Rapunzel jealous, she sat in the front yard, with her back turned and a book in her hands. She opened her book and said, “Proceed!” All of the girls in the house sat outside, awaiting their turn and some sat out to watch. As the Violetta and Cyanne turned the two long strands of red hair, the first one to go first was Eglantine. She seemed to have mastered this, which was expected because skipping is something that most Rabbitwrights did and should be doing at an early age, something that made Madgie jealous. After being tired out, she stopped and said, “All done!”

        Toki’s hair was only 1 1/3 braided and the next one to try out was Bunny. Like her deceased mother before her, she was a queen of this sport, a gifted Rabbitwright. She skipped more than twice and seemed not to be tired, not a single sweat-bead. She stopped and sat down, opening a soda and sitting back. Toki’s hair was now 1 ½ braided and someone else decided to give it a go. With her golden blonde hair pulled back in pigtails, Brownie skip liked she never skipped before. She skipped, speeding up every time she skipped. She stopped once her pigtails were tangled.

        Toki’s hair was now ½ braided and she had already made it through half of her book. The next one to step up was Lace and this worried some. She was blind, therefore she could not see whenever the strands were being turned and wouldn’t know when to skip over the strands and to keep from tripping. Of course, being that Lace is, well, Lace, she surprised them and could predict when the strands came by her feet. She skipped a few times.

        Toki’s hair was almost finished braided and she had shifted positions in the yard. The next one that stepped up was Anastasia, the very, very, very shy one. She almost never played a game but found this one to be unusual. She wanted to try it and did, only stopping after a couple of times. Still, they continued on, and many more came. Soon, there was only one left, Violetta.

        This was a game she dared not try because, being short, she can’t really skip very high and, being anemic, she couldn’t focus too well and is often dizzy, also she seems to bruise pretty easily. She decided, after some deliberation, that she would attempt it. As the final bit of the strands were being twirled, she hopped and counted every time she did so. After skipping, Toki’s hair was braided and a ribbon was bound at the end. Exactly how many times Violetta skipped, well, it was about eight times and she found she had a talent for and rather enjoyed skipping rope.
